A total of fifty-one lakh people have received their Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) e-cards in Bihar, announced the National Health Authority of India.
With this, the prime minister’s flagship programme has successfully covered about 22 percent of the eligible families, which is more than 24.19 lakh families, according to NHA.
An e-card, enables a beneficiary to avail healthcare at any of the empanelled hospitals in the scheme, anywhere in the country.
The State Health Agency (SHA) of Bihar, Bihar Swasthya Suraksha Samiti, is responsible for the implementation of AM PM-JAY in the state. An e-card is generated once the SHA approves the eligibility of the beneficiary. This also allows the existing member to add any additional family members to it.
The scheme allows provision for around 10% of the families in Bihar (1.08 crore recipients) to receive the facility.
According to NHA, until now, 1,70,281 cases of hospital admissions worth Rs. 169 crore has been authorized under the scheme in the state.
More private hospitals are being brought on board by the SHA to increase the network of empanelled hospitals under the scheme. Currently, 800 hospitals including 230 private hospitals are listed under the scheme in the State.
AB PM-JAY has been implemented in Bihar in September 2018.
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is a publicly funded health insurance/assurance scheme of the National Health Policy of the government which jointly with state counterparts aims to provide free health coverage at the secondary and tertiary level to its bottom 40% poor and vulnerable population.
