The Medical Council of India (MCI) has made the biometric attendance system mandatory for doctors at the government-run medical colleges in India. The Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India has announced the changes through the gazette notification.
The notification calls for medical colleges to regularly record the attendance data of the medical faculty and other staff at the medical college. The attendance will have to be made available on a daily basis on to the designated section in the sites of the respective medical colleges.
The MCI had earlier published a notification for recording attendance through biometric system in August 2017. However, majority of medical colleges continued to violate the rule since it was not made mandatory.
Many a time patient care had been hit at the premier healthcare institutions because of the unannounced absenteism of doctors, said sources.
