BJWHC launches rehab facility for malnourished children

Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children (BJWHC),Mumbai, in association with UNICEF, has launched the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre at the hospital.
The facility offers comprehensive care for prevention of severe acute malnutrition (SAM).

More than 250 SAM children will get holistic inpatient care at this facility every year, according to a hospital statement.

As part of the programme, UNICEF offers technical and training support to staff members in the hospital.

The state-of-the-art NRC plus unit will also establish itself as a centre for research. The facility would also become the training hub for health staff and field staff on the management of children with SAM.

Child undernutrition remains the biggest threat to child survival, growth and development despite significant development in the social and economic sector across the country. Undernutrition contributes to the deaths of about 3 million children each year, according to The Lancet 2013 report.
