India sees spike of 26,550 new cases on Thursday; COVID tally at 7.94 lakh

India saw 26,550 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The overall confirmed cases in the country stood at 7,948,39 as of now. According to the Union Health Ministry, about 2,772,57 of them are active cases as of now while 4,959,59 patients have seen recovery from the infection taking the national recovery rate to 62%.

The data released by the Health Ministry revealed that about 43% of the deaths have taken place in the relatively younger age groups of 30-44 and 45-59. People above 45 years of age continued to be at high risk accounting for 85% of the COVID related deaths so far, with most deaths (71%) being reported in the 45-74 age group. As many as 21,623 deaths have been reported due to the infection in the country so far.

With 2,305,99 cases Maharashtra remains the worst affected state followed by Tamil Nadu 1,265,81 and Delhi 1,070,51.
