Single-day spike of cases cross 32,000 on Wednesday; COVID tally in India close to a million

More than 32,498 new positive COVID cases were reported on Wednesday taking the total confirmed cases in the country to 9,701,63. As per the data from the Union Health Ministry, there are as many as 3,31,486 active cases and 6,13,734 has been recovered until now. The death toll stands at 24,943.

Maharashtra continued to be the worst affected state, reporting 7,975 new cases yesterday taking the total caseload to 2,756,40. The state reported as many as 233 deaths taking the toll to 10,928. 

Tamil Nadu saw 4,496 new cases on Wednesday, taking the case tally to 1,51,820. With 68 new deaths, the state’s toll reached 2,167.

At least seven states reported their highest single-day peak on Wednesday including Karnataka (3,176), Andhra Pradesh (2,431), Kerala (623), Gujarat (925), Goa (198), West Bengal (1589) and Rajasthan (866).

The ICMR has announced that a total of 1,27,39,490 samples were tested for COVID till 15th July of which 3,26,826 samples were tested yesterday.
