India COVID tally at 13.8 lakh; More states join the worst affected list

India reported more than 48,539 COVID-19 positive cases on Saturday taking the total tally of confirmed cases to 13,854,86. The total active cases currently stand at 4,67,241, while 8,861,35 have seen recovery from the infection until now. With 705 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 death toll touched 32,110 in all as of Saturday night. 

While Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu remained the top two most affected states in the country, more states are now entering the list showing large number of new cases per day.

Maharashtra reported 9,251 new cases and 257 deaths on Saturday. The total number of cases in the State rose to 3,66,368 including 1,45,481 active cases and 2,07,194 discharged cases. Tamil Nadu reported 6,988 positive cases, 89 deaths and 7,758 recoveries yesterday. The total cases reported in the state stood at 2,067,37. Meanwhile, seven other states registered their highest single-day spike in cases including Karnataka (5,072), UP (2,984), Bihar (2,803), Rajasthan (1,120), Kerala (1,103) and Gujarat (1,081). 

The Tripura government has imposed a three-day complete lockdown from Monday in view of the surge in the COVID infections, the state Health department said. A house-to-house survey and antigen test will be conducted among the suspected patients during the lockdown int he state.
