Single-day spike touches 50,000 on Sunday; India’s COVID-19 cases to soon touch 1.5 million

India witnessed a spike of 49,931 new positive COVID-19 cases and 708 deaths on Sunday. The total confirmed cases reported in the country so far stands at 14,360,07 of which 4,841,87 are active cases now, while 9,189,97 patients have been recuperated, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. India’s total COVID-19 deaths reached 32,823 as on Sunday.  

With 3,757,99 total cases, Maharashtra continued to be the most-affected state followed by Tamil Nadu (2,137,23), Delhi (1,306,06), Andra Pradesh (96,298) and Karnataka (96,141).
Meanwhile, more than 1.64 crore people have been reported to be infected by the SARS CoV-2 globally and 652,256 have died due to the infection. The U.S with 4,371,839 total cases remains the most affected country followed by Brazil (2,419,901) and India.
