India COVID-19 tally at 1.8 million; 54,735 new cases on Sunday

India recorded 53,735 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday taking the total tally past 18-lakh mark to reach 18,04,539. The active caseload of the country stands at 5,809,53 and the number of recoveries seen increased to 11,854,39 until now. With 758 reported new fatalities reported on Sunday,  the country’s COVID-19 death toll surged to 38,165 as of today, according to Union Health Ministry.

Andhra Pradesh witnessed a surge of COVID cases in the past week recording 62,466 new infections in line with Maharashtra where 65,429 cases were detected. 

AP has reported 67 deaths and 8,555 new COVID cases during the past 24 hours as of Sunday morning. The overall tally increased to 1,58,764 and the death toll mounted to 1,474.

Tamil Nadu reported the third-highest cases during the week at 43,890 followed by Karnataka with (38,678) and UP (26,646).

On Sunday, four states reported their highest daily COVID cases including West Bengal with 2,739 cases, Rajasthan (1,167), Madhya Pradesh (921) and Goa (337).–
