India’s COVID-19 tally at 20 lakh; 62K cases reported on ThursdayAugust 7, 2020 0 By FM
India registered 62,482 new positive COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the total caseload to 20,23,821 in all. The active caseload stands at 6,088,77 while the recoveries have surged to 13,769,59, according to the data from the Union Health Ministry. The nation reported 912 deaths on Thursday taking the death toll to 41,661.
The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 6th August is 2,27,24,134 including 5,74,783 samples tested yesterday according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The biggest surge in fresh infections on Thursday came on the back of at least nine states. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh continued to lead the caseload of the country. Maharashtra reported 11,514 new cases on Thursday which took the total number of cases in the state to 4,79,779.
Andhra Pradesh reported 10,328 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state reached 1,96,789 including 1,12,870 recoveries and 1,753 deaths.
Other states which saw a surge in cases included Karnataka (6,805), Uttar Pradesh (4,658), Bengal (2,954), Telangana (2,092), Odisha (1,699), Kerala (1298), Punjab (1,049), Jharkhand (1,060) and Meghalaya (51).
