Record surge in new cases on Saturday; India COVID-19 tally rises to 2.1 millionAugust 9, 2020 0 By FM
India saw a record single-day surge in positive COVID-19 caseload on Saturday at 64,399 cases. With this, the country’s COVID tally rose to 21,53,011 including 6,28,747 active cases, 14,80,885 cured/discharged/migrated, says Ministry of Health.The death toll surged to 43,379 with 861 fatalities reported on Saturday.
Maharashtra recorded its highest single-day surge registering 12,822 new cases yesterday taking the total caseload to 5,03,084. Tamil Nadu has the second-highest number of cases (2,90,907) which is followed by Andhra Pradesh (2,17,040) and Karnataka (1,72,102).
Delhi saw 1,404 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases stood at 1,44,127 as of now. Of these, 1,29,362 people have recovered and 10,667 are active cases. Also, 16 more deaths have been reported, taking the total number of deaths to 4,098.
Besides Maharashtra, at least six states observed a spike in its single-day cases including Karnataka (7,178), UP (4,800), Telangana (2,256), Kerala (1,420), Rajasthan (1,171) and Bihar (3,992).
