India COVID-19 death toll climbs to 51,797; Govt says recovery rate up at 73.2%

India’s COVID-19 deaths have touched 51,797 in all with a total confirmed cases of 27,02,742 as on Tuesday.  While 19.77 lakh people have recovered from the infection pushing the recovery rate to 73.2%, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Nagaland— one Indian state which reported no COVID-19 cases so far, has confirmed 67 positive cases on Tuesday. The state had tested 577 more samples in the last two days. While in Maharashtra,  Pune’s first serosurvey has found that 51.5% of the total 1644 respondents from five highly- affected locations in the city have developed antibodies in their blood against SARS-CoV-2.

Kerala recorded a rise of 1,725 cases, alongside 1,131 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total cases went up to 46,150, of which 15,890 were active cases. A total of 30,029 persons have been recovered so far. According to the state health ministry, 93 % of new cases (1,605 of 1,725)  were locally acquired infections, including infections in 31 healthcare workers while no epidemiological link could be established for 94 cases.
