India Covid-19 tally to touch 38 lakh; Govt says 54% patients are in 18-44 age group

With more than 80,000 new SARS CoV-2 infection cases recorded in the past 24 hours, India’s total caseload is now close to  38 lakh. ICMR said that a total of 10,12,367 samples were tested on Tuesday.  While there are 8,012,82 active cases at present, about 2,901,908 patients have been discharged. The total death toll  has touched 66,333, including 1,045 new fatalities reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the health ministry said that about 54% COVID-19 patients in the country were in the 18-44 years age group while 51% deaths were in the age bracket of 60 years and above. According to the Ministry, there were 8% cases and 1% death below 17 years of age and 14% of the infected cases were recorded among the 18-25 age group.  40% cases were reported In the 26-44 age group and there were 11% deaths in this age bracket. 36% deaths and 26% cases were registered among people from 45 to 60 years of age, the ministry said on Tuesday.
