Biggest spike in new SARS CoV-2 infections on Wednesday; Karnataka sees sharp rise in fresh cases

India recorded 83,029 new SARS CoV-2  infection cases, the biggest single-day spike ever since the country reported the pandemic, on Wednesday.  With this the country’s total caseload has touched 38,48,968 until now. There were 1,023 new COVID-19  liked deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 67,415 caused by the pandemic so far in the country. 

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest number of cases in the country so far, while new cases are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as the fourth phase of lockdown release is underway. Karnataka reported 9,860 new infection cases,  in which the capital city Bengaluru alone contributed 3,420 cases, taking the overall tally in the state to 1,35,512 on Wednesday. 

Globally, there have been over 26,177, 603 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 8.57 lakh people have died so far.
