India’s’ COVID-19 tally climbs to 6.2 million; Maharashtra continues to top the chart

India reported 80,500 positive COVID19 cases on Tuesday taking the country’s caseload to 62,23,519. Of these, 9,40,473 are active cases, and the total recoveries have reached 51,84,634, as per the compiled data by the Union Health Ministry. The nation saw 86,061 recoveries and 1178 deaths during the day. The death toll due to the pandemic now stands at 97,529.

Maharashtra reported 14,976 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The state’s daily recoveries saw a surge outpacing the fresh cases with 19,212 patients being discharged on the day. The state’s total case tally now stands at 13,66,129 of whom 2,60,363 are active ones. The cumulative recoveries have risen to 10,69,159 with the recovery rate rising to 78.26%. As many as 430 deaths saw the state’s fatality count climb to 36,181.

“Of a total 66,98,024 laboratory samples tested thus far, 13,66,129 (20.40%) have returned positive with around 76,000 samples across the state being tested in the last 24 hours,” State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate said, adding that the State’s case fatality rate was currently 2.65%.

Andhra Pradesh which has the second-highest number of cases saw 6,190 fresh incidences on Tuesday which took the total caseload to 6,87,351. The active cases in the state stand at 59,435. With over 9,836 recoveries reported on the day the total recoveries have surged to 6,22,136. The state saw 35 deaths taking the total fatalities to 5,780. As many as 68.4K tests were conducted in the state on the day.

With 10,453 new cases, Karnataka’s infection tally surged to 5,92,911 following AP. The active cases in the state stands at 1,07,737. As many as 6,628 were cured/discharged during the day taking the total recoveries to 4,76,378. The state added 136 fatalities taking the overall deaths to 8,777.
Total tested conducted on Tuesday was 87.5K taking the overall tests to 48.1lakh until now.

Tamil Nadu reported 5,546 fresh cases on Tuesday, taking the State’s tally to 5,91,943. The state recorded 70 more deaths, taking the overall fatalities to 9,453.

Of the fresh cases, Chennai accounted for 1,277, while Coimbatore reported 572 cases. The cases surged in Salem as 343 persons tested positive. Chengalpattu reported 330 cases and Tiruvallur 279 cases. Nine districts recorded 100-plus cases. These included Thanjavur, 186, Kancheepuram, 159, Tiruppur, 153, and The Nilgiris, 149, of which three were imported cases.

Kerala continued to see a surge in its daily cases with 7,354 fresh incidences reported on Tuesday. The total cases reported from the state stands at 1,87,277 of which 61,791 are active cases. As many as 3,420 patients were tested negative on the day taking the total recoveries to 1,24,684. The state’s death toll reached 720 adding 22 more fatalities yesterday. Over 57.8K tests were conducted on the day. As many as 28.6 lakh tests were conducted till date.
