India’s COVID-19 infections cross 6.8 million on Wednesday; death toll at 1,05 million

India registered 78,809 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the cumulative caseload to 68,32,988. The active cases stood at 9,01,924 as the recoveries reached 58,24,462 with 83,209 patients testing negative yesterday. The death toll due to the pandemic has reached 1,05,554 in India with 963 fatalities recorded on the day.

With 14,578 new COVID-19 incidences reported yesterday, Maharashtra continued to be the most affected state with a cumulative tally of 14,80,489. Of the total case tally 2,44,527 infections are presently in the active caseload. As many as 11,96,441 have been recovered so far with 16,715 being discharged/cured yesterday. The total fatalities have mounted to 39,072 with 355 recent deaths.

Following Mahrashtra, Andhra Pradesh’s COVID-19 infection tally stood the second highest with 7,34,427 cases. The state added 5,120 fresh infections on Wednesday adding to the active caseload to reach 49,513. Over 6,78,828 patients have seen recovery in the state so far with 6,349 being cured/discharged yesterday. With 34 recent deaths, the total fatalities reached 6,086.

Karnataka continued to see a surge in fresh cases as the state reported 10,947 new incidences taking the cumulative tally to 6,68,652 close to 7 lakh. The active cases in the state stood at 1,16,153 and the total recoveries reached 5,42,906. The death toll stands at 9,574.

Kerala saw a surge in its daily COVID-19 caseload with 10,606 fresh cases crossing the 10K mark for the first time on Wednesday. The total case tally mounted to 2,53,406 of which 92,161 are active cases. As many as 6,161 patients have been cured/discharged yesterday taking the overall recoveries to 1,60,253. With 22 recent deaths the toll rose to 907 in the state.

The fresh cases reported by the districts on Wednesday included: Thiruvananthapuram (1,182), Malappuram (1,350), Kozhikode (1,576), Ernakulam (1,201), Kollam (852), Thrissur (948), Alappuzha (672), Palakkad (650), Kannur (602), Kottayam (490), Kasaragod (432), Pathanamthitta (393), Idukki (120), Wayanad (138).
