With over 50k new infections, India’s casecount climbs to 83.6 million

India reported 50,465 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday pushing the cumulative caseload to 83,63,412. The total active infections add up to 5,26,807. The number of patients recovered from the disease has risen to 77,10,630 with 55,873 patients getting cured/discharged yesterday. The number of fatalities due to pandemic mounted to 1,24,354 in all with 704 recent death reported in the past 24 hours.

Kerala reported the highest number of daily-COVID-19 cases at 8,516 after testing 71,270 samples, on Wednesday. With this, the state’s overall case tally took to 4,59,647. The test positivity rate was 11.9%.The number of persons reported to be critically ill and being treated in ICUs was 831, with 235 on ventilator support, official data said.As many as 28 COVID-19 related deaths were reported yesterday taking the overall fatalities to 1,587.

Ernakulam district reported the highest number of cases at 1,197 which was followed by Thrissur 1,114 and Kozhikode 951.

Delhi, on Wednesday, reported 6,842 fresh COVID-19 incidences taking the case tally to 4,09,938. The active infections stood at 37,369. With 5,797 patients getting cured/discharged yesterday the overall recoveries rose to 3,65,866. The death toll mounted to 6,703 with 51 new deaths from the virus infection.

Maharashtra saw 5,505 new cases on Wednesday as opposed to 8,728 recoveries. The new cases took its total caseload to 16,98,198 as the active infection remained at 1,12,912. The total recoveries stood at 15,40,005 and the deaths have reached 44,548 to date.

West Bengal added 3,987 new cases yesterday. The states’ total caseload stood at 3,89,576 and the active infections at 36,246. As many as 3,46,262 patients have been recovered from the infection so far while 7,068 lost lives.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 3,377 new cases and 34 deaths. The overall casetally has reached 8,35,773 and the active cases stood at 35,693. The total recoveries seen till now has risen to 7,88,780 and the death toll climbed to 11,281. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 3.29%, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) touched 1%.

Andhra Pradesh reported 2,477 new infections and 10 deaths on Wednesday. The cumulative tally took to 8,33,208 with 21,438 active infections. The state has seen 8,05,026 recoveries and 6,744 deaths from COVID-19 to date. As many as 75,465 samples were tested with a positivity rate of 3.28%. The total number of tests conducted to date has reached 83.35 lakh, with the overall positivity rate reaching 10%.

Globally, the COVID-19 cases have climbed to 48,419,721 with 1,230,753 fatalities reported as yet. The US has the highest caseload at 9,801,355, followed by India and Brazil.
