India’s COVID-19 tally at 9.88 million; Test positivity rate up in KeralaDecember 14, 2020 0 By FM
India reported 27,071 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The country’s total cases reached 98,84,100 and the number of active cases declined to 3,52,586, according to the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) released on Monday morning. A total of 30,695 new recoveries were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of recovered patients to 93,88,159. With 336 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll has mounted to 1,43,355.
Kerala reported 4,698 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday after testing 46,375 samples. The state which had shown a negative growth all through November suddenly showed an increase by 5.6% according to the official data. Test positivity rate has shown a rising trend for the past three days and touched 10.13% on Sunday, indicating a steady rate of disease transmission, which could be set to climb. The state’s cumulative caseload has reached 6,69,330 cases. The active cases now stand at 59,438, with cumulative recoveries adding to 6,07,119. With 29 recent fatalities, the death toll has risen to 2,623.
Maharashtra saw 3,717 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, while just 3,083 patients were discharged. The state’s active infections have increased to 74,104, while the total case tally stood at 18,80,416. While the cumulative recoveries stand at 17,57,005, the state’s recovery rate declined marginally to 93.44%. As many as 70 deaths were reported, pushing the fatality count to 48,209.
“Of a total of 1,17,02,457 laboratory samples tested thus far, 18,80,416 (case positivity rate of 16.07%) have returned positive with nearly 64,000 samples being tested in the last 24 hours,” State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate said, adding that the state’s case fatality rate was 2.56%.
Delhi reported 1,984 new COVID-19 cases, 2539 recoveries and 33 deaths in the last 24 hours, said Delhi’s health department. Total cases in the national capital stands at 6,07,454 including 5,80,655 recoveries, 16,785 active cases and 10,014 deaths.
