India records 12K COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as vaccination numbers cross 2 m mark

India’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,06,90,279 with 12,689 new cases on Tuesday. As many as 1,03,59,305 people have recuperated from the infection so far pushing the national recovery rate to 96.91 per cent, according to the union health ministry’s data. As many as 13,021 recoveries and 127 fatalities were recorded during the day. The active infections stood at 1,73,731. The death toll has mounted to 1,53,751 till now. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44 per cent.

The active COVID19 infections in Kerala have risen to 71,603 after recording 6,293 fresh cases on Tuesday. The cumulative case tally has mounted to 8,99,933. As many as 8,24,446 recoveries and 3,644 fatalities have been recorded in the state so far, with 5,290 discharges and 19 deaths reported yesterday.

Maharashtra saw 2,405 new COVID-19 cases, 2,106 recoveries and 47 deaths on Tuesday. The total case tally stood at 20,13,353, of which 43,811 are active cases. The death toll has risen to 50,862 till now.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 19,36,13,120 samples have been tested up to January 26 in India, with 5,50,426 samples being tested on Tuesday alone.

Over 20.29 lakh beneficiaries across the country have received COVID-19 vaccine jabs till Tuesday through 36,572 sessions, as per provisional reports released by the Union health ministry.
