Saturday spike in new cases cross 28,000; India COVID tally at 8.5 lakh

Over 28,637 positive COVID-19 cases and 551 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours. With this, the total confirmed cases in the country stands at 8,49,553, as of now. Out of this total number of cases, 29,22,58 are active cases and 5,34,621 people have recovered from the disease so far, according to the data from the Union Health Ministry. The country has witnessed as many as 22,674 deaths due to COVID-19 infection until now. 

With 2,466,00 cases Maharashtra continues as the most affected state followed by TamilNadu (1,342,26), Delhi (1,109,21), Gujarat (40,941) and U.P (35,092).

Kerala on Saturday reported one of its biggest single-day spike of 488 new cases, taking the infection tally to 7,438 raising the threat of new COVID-19 clusters with unknown sources of infection. With 2 recent fatalities, the total deaths reported in the state rose to 29.
