Spike in Delhi; India’s COVID-19 tally crosses 85.5 million

India reported 46,660 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The overall reported infections in the country has reached 85,53,864 so far. As many as 48,369 patients have recuperated from the disease yesterday taking the total recoveries to 79,15,660. The total active infections add up to 5,09,712 and the total deaths due to the pandemic reached 1,26,653 with 490 recent deaths.

Delhi, on Sunday, reported a spike of 7,745 fresh COVID-19 incidences taking the case tally to 4,38,529. The active infections stood at 41,857. With 6,069 patients getting cured/discharged yesterday the overall recoveries rose to 3,89,683. The death toll mounted to 6,989 with 77 new deaths from the virus infection.

Kerala reported 5,440 new cases of COVID-19 after testing 48,798 samples on Sunday. The test positivity rate stood at 11.1% on the day. The addition of 24 deaths took the cumulative COVID-19 toll to 1,692. The total caseload rose to 4,86,110 with the active infections at 81,824. The total recoveries have reached 4,02,477 with 6,853 of them being discharged yesterday.

Maharashtra reported 5,585 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday taking the total case tally to 17,19,858. The number of active cases stood at 96,372. With 125 deaths, the state’s death toll has reached 45,240. As many as 8,232 patients have been discharged during the day taking the total recoveries to 15,77,322.

West Bengal reported 3,920 new COVID-19 cases taking the total cases to 4,05,314.The active cases dropped to 34,566. As the state recorded 59 deaths, the fatality toll reached 7,294.

Karnataka on Sunday reported 2,740 new cases and 22 new deaths. The overall case tally has reached 8,46,887 and the active cases stood at 33,678. The total recoveries seen till now has risen to 8,01,799 and the death toll climbed to 11,391 with 22 new deaths.

Andhra Pradesh reported 2,237 new infections on Sunday. The cumulative tally took to 8,42,967 with 21,403 active infections. The state has seen 8,14,773 recoveries and 6,791deaths from COVID-19 to date. The overall positivity rate of a total of 86.56 lakh samples tested so far has come down to 9.74% and that of 76,663 samples tested on Sunday was 2.92%.

Globally the pandemic has infected 50,737,872 people so far and caused 1,262,130 deaths. The highest number of reported cases comes from the U.S with 10,288,480 getting infected as yet which is followed by India and Brazil.
