National lockdown extended till May 3; Virus hotspots to be closely monitored

Government of India has announced today the extension of national lockdown imposed to prevent spread of novel coronavirus disease till May 3. While addressing the nation on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that observing social distancing is the only way the country can stop spread of the disease and its compliance among the public will be strictly monitored.

The government has also set up new healthcare facilities to increase the bed capacity in the wake of the rising number of cases and deaths. As of Tuesday morning, the death toll due to coronavirus has climbed to 339 with over 50 deaths within 24 hours. The number of cases in the country has crossed the 10,000-mark.
