31K new COVID-19 cases in India on Monday; recovery rate slows in Kerala

India reported 31,179 new COVID-19 incidences on Monday. Now the country’s total case tally stands at 94,63,254. The overall active cases remained at 4,34,821 with 88,88,595 recoveries and 1,37,659 deaths seen in all, so far. The number of people who have recuperated from the virus infection yesterday was 42,282 and 482 lost lives to the infection.

Maharashtra reported 3,837 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday as opposed to 4,196 recoveries. The total case tally now stands at 18,23,896, with the number of active cases at 90,557. The cumulative number of recoveries have reached 16,85,122. As many as 80 new deaths were reported, taking the toll to 47,151.

Delhi witnessed 3,726 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 5,70,374, according to a health bulletin released by the Delhi government. 108 more deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 9,174. Of the total cases, 5,28,315 have recovered and there are 32,885 active cases.

The Delhi government has reduced the maximum rate that can be charged for RT- PCR tests for COVID-19 in private facilities, according to an official order. The maximum rate for one RT-PCR has been fixed at ₹800, when the sample is collected at a facility and ₹1,200 when it is collected from a person’s home. The earlier rate was ₹2,400 per test, which was higher than many other states. The tests are being conducted free of cost in government establishments.

Out of the total 18,694 beds available for COVID-19 treatment, 56.6% were vacant. About 77.01% of ICU beds with ventilators for COVID-19 treatment and 66.9% of the ICU beds without ventilators were occupied by Monday night, as per Delhi government data. The positivity rate on Monday was 7.35% and the overall positivity till now is 9.07%, the bulletin says. The number of containment zones is 5,552.

Kerala’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 6 lakh mark on Monday after seeing 3,382 new positive cases from testing 34,689 samples. The total caseload has risen to 6,02,982 with the active cases at 61,907. The test positivity rate stood at 9.75%. The total number of recoveries have reached 5,38,713 and the deaths stand 2,245, till now.

While low disease transmission was seen and new cases dropped in many places, in districts like Idukki, Wayanad, Kottayam and Malappuram, cases were again on the rise. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said new cases seemed to be coming down, but the recovery rate did not show a matching increase.

West Bengal saw 2,671 new infections pushing the total caseload to 4,83,484. The active infections stood at 24,298 in the state. 48 patients succumbed to the infection taking the fatalities to 8,424.

Rajasthan saw 2,677 new cases on Monday. Of the total caseload at 2,68,063, the active infections totalled 28,653. As many as 2,37,098 patients got recovered and 2,312 succumbed to the infection so far.

Himachal Pradesh saw 515 new cases on Monday after testing 3,400 samples. The active cases stood at 8,289 and the case tally stood at 40,518. The death toll has reached 635 with 10 new fatalities.
