The Medical Council of India Board of Governors (MCI BOG) has appointed four new doctors to the country’s apex regulatory body.
With these additional appointments, the strength of the MCI BOG has gone up from 7 to 11.
The new members are Maj Gen Madhuri Kanitkar MD (Paediatrics), DNB (Paediatrics), Dean and Deputy Commandant of AFMS; Dr Pankaj M Shah, Advisor, Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute; Dr RV Ramani, founder and managing trustee of Sankara Eye Foundation and Dr KS Sharma, Director (Academics), Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai..
As per the recently passed Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Section Ordinance, 2019 (Ordinance 5 of 2019), up to 12 members can be appointed to the MCI BOG.
The union cabinet recently approved Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Second Ordinance, 2019 to allow the Board of Governors to run the regulatory body.
