The Mizoram government has passed a bill in the assembly to facilitate the supply of cadavers to the medical college in the state.
According to reports, the Mizoram Anatomy Bill, 2019, introduced by the state health minister was passed unanimously.
The bill proposing to supply unclaimed bodies of deceased persons or donated bodies to teaching medical institutions was introduced due to a demand for corpses for the purpose of anatomical examination and dissection.
After enactment, the bill would facilitate the availability of bodies for the Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER), where the academic session started from August 2018, the minister said.
MIMR is the first medical college established in the north-eastern state of Mizoram.
MIMER has an annual intake of 100 students.
